The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the announcement regarding the Ekiti State Governorship Election, scheduled for June 20, 2026. It has been stated that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be utilized for the accreditation of voters.
INEC announced the dates for the Governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun State last month; however, the release of Wednesday’s “Notice” aligns with Section 28(1)&(2) of the amended Electoral Act 2022. As per the notice, the election will begin at 8:30 am and will take place in 2,445 polling units distributed across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ekiti State.
The Commission reiterated that only individuals whose names are listed on the voter register and possess valid Permanent Voter Cards will be permitted to cast their votes. “Voters are required to vote only at the polling units where they are registered. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be utilized for voter accreditation,” the Commission stated, emphasizing that without a PVC, voting will not be allowed.
