Properties estimated at millions of naira were destroyed in a fire that engulfed a provision shop in Oyo town, Oyo State, on Sunday night. This incident occurred next to a petrol station in the Farade area of the town. The affected items included a refrigerator and other household goods.
Maroof Akinwande, the chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the fire was reported to the agency at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2025.
He stated: “The agency’s officers, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, were promptly sent to the scene of the incident where they found a provision shop on fire. They quickly took action and prevented the fire from spreading to the entire shop. The fire impacted the refrigerator and some provisions, but other goods worth millions of naira were saved by the fire service.”
Akinwande indicated that the fire was caused by heat generated from a refrigerator that had been left plugged in and unattended overnight.
