The Abia State Polytechnic located in Aba has initiated the fabrication and production of waste collection receptacles for the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA). Dr. Chris Okoro, the Rector of the polytechnic, clarified that this initiative aims to provide waste receptacles for the 292 wards in the state, thereby supporting efforts to improve sanitation.
On Monday evening, State Information Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu announced after the state’s weekly executive council meeting that 26 of these receptacles had been delivered to ASEPA. He stated that these receptacles would aid in sustainable waste management and foster a cleaner, more sanitary environment throughout Abia. Kanu further explained that the concept for these receptacles arose after ASEPA deployed over 1,000 sanitary inspectors to the 17 local councils in the state. These inspectors are responsible for enforcing sanitation regulations and expanding waste collection and disposal services to communities across Abia’s three senatorial zones.
