President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, as part of a significant visit aimed at addressing the recent increase in violent incidents throughout the state.

Tinubu reached the Tactical Air Command at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi at approximately 12:58 pm on Wednesday.

This visit follows yet another tragic attack that resulted in numerous fatalities and left several communities in ruins.

A statement from Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga highlighted that the President’s visit emphasizes his dedication to finding a sustainable resolution to the ongoing crisis that has caused families to mourn and properties to be destroyed.

During his visit, Tinubu is anticipated to engage directly with essential stakeholders in the state, including traditional leaders, religious and political figures, community representatives, and youth organizations, in a town hall meeting aimed at encouraging dialogue and fostering peace.

To prepare for the President’s visit, a team of senior government officials was previously sent to Benue. This team, which includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees, has been collaborating with local authorities and security personnel to evaluate the current situation.

The visit also signifies a focus on national security over ceremonial duties, as President Tinubu postponed a scheduled trip to Kaduna State—originally planned for tomorrow—to inaugurate various state projects. This trip will now occur on Thursday, after his engagements in Benue.

Previously, President Tinubu condemned the recent surge of violence in Benue, calling on all parties to reject violence and embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding.

He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring stability in the nation’s conflict-affected areas.
